I haven’t been using a grindstone for very long, but now that I have….. I’m hooked on it.

I haven’t been using a granite grindstone for very long but I’ve adapted to it quickly. There’s a lot of grinders on the market that are much better than mine. I wasn’t sure at first how much I’d like doing this so I went for a stone that was moderately priced. There are a few drawbacks and I’m looking for a better model later on. The stipulation is that it has to be hand cranked… for a couple reasons. First off, I didn’t opt for an electric driven grinder because the heat they produce makes the flour hot to the touch. Secondly, I didn’t want one with metal burrs because I didn’t want metal shavings in my meal.

I live in Maine and in winters the power tends to go out on occasion. Tree limbs from heavy snow loads often fall across the lines, and even though I do have a backup generator, I like to run it as little as possible.

My red, blue, yellow, and white corn has been coming from this place in Texas. Click here
