Maintenance on the Kegerator

Unfortunately it’s been a while since I last used my kegerator. It’s been sitting idly in the corner of the kitchen by the fridge for a few years. I don’t know why I ended up not brewing my own beer for a while….. maybe I just got too busy with everything else. So I decided it’s way past time to clean it out and get it flowing again.

I have never had the faucets apart before and I didn’t know where to start. But this thing has been sitting for so long it was gummed up inside and not functioning. I began with a simple schematic.

I soaked both taps in very hot water to loosen them up. Then I disassembled them both and dried the inside and replaced the O Rings.

Once both taps had been refurbished, it was time to do something about the lines. They’re pretty cruddy and I decided to simply replace them, since they’re cheap enough.

The large moose antler handle on the right is for stouts and porters, the deer antler on the left pours red or brown ales. The entire assembly is not as difficult to do maintenance on as I thought it would be.

My kegerator sits in the corner of the kitchen right beside the refrigerator.

It’s the perfect size for two 5 gallon Cornelius kegs to tuck in beside each other and leave a bit of room for some commercial beer to tuck in the front.
