More Cooking on a Harley

It was such a nice day, I decided to load up the sidecar Harley with me, the dog, and some chow. We rode over to a lake where I knew they had some picnic tables out — and it wouldn’t be crowded. This time I was going to get serious about the picnic. I broke out the bigger portable oven that’s wood fired. As per usual, the prep work was done at home beforehand so I could concentrate on the cooking and eating.

Anything that can be cooked or baked at home can be done up the same with my mini portable kitchen. Over the years I’ve amassed this gear with one goal in mind. Luxury and it has to fit on the Harley. It can’t be massive, overweight, or have to be tied down.

This portion is what I call my picnic bag. I’ve had it for a number of years now and I’ve added a few things to it over time. I’ve upgraded the flatware from what it came with. I’ve added a few kitchen tools. But my best addition ?

The rear compartment has a big pocket that just fits my BioLite wood stove and grill accessory.

This little sucker can burn just about any solid flammable from pine cones to wood pellets. The neat thing is it can charge your cell phone while it’s cooking.

The next piece of gear is the Instafire Ember. Like the Biolite stove, it burns pretty much anything solid flammable as well. Old sticks, leaves, pine cones…. But you can use it indoors with chafing dish alcohol burners.

So today’s menu was Angus steak tips, roasted stuff bell pepper, whole wheat bread, and a glass of “cardboardeux” red wine from a small box. The red bell pepper was stuffed with quinoa, bulgur wheat, black beans, turmeric, black pepper, and topped with Alfredo sauce and chèvre cheese before being baked in the oven.
Imagine being able to eat like this pretty much anywhere you can access from your motorcycle.

Dessert happens to be the rest of the merlot and a really nice dark maduro cigar. I’m telling you it doesn’t get much better than this.

What good is an enjoyable day if you don’t bring along your best buddy ? She rode along in the sidecar with her “doggles” and she brought her game face for chow time.

Of course Ryland got her share of the whole wheat bread and her steak tips. She didn’t get any of the bell peppers since the Alfredo sauce had garlic in it. No reason for her to get sick. I don’t mind bringing her along because she doesn’t mooch my cigars and she doesn’t bum a swig of the red wine. All the more for me.
