Baking the Epoxy on a Traditional Recurve Bow

In a previous blog, I showed how I did a glue up of a bow in a homemade bow over. It is a simple wooden box that has a heat lamp wired into it with a temperature sensor from a junked out clothes drier. This would trip a switch to shut off the heat lamp or turn it on again based on the temperature in the box. This way epoxy doesn’t over cook and ruin the bow.

Once the bow has cured overnight it is removed from the curing oven and the tape is removed from the wood. This tape prevents epoxy from sticking to places where I don’t want glue.

The first trimming of the bow ends.

A piece of phenolic resin is glued to each end with epoxy as reinforcement for the string loops.

The reinforced ends are shaped into a proper tip.

Wooden blocks are glued to the inside of the bow to be formed into the riser handle.

The riser ready to be shaped.
