This outlines the shaping and finishing of the traditional recurve glass backed hunting bow I made.

A copperhead snakeskin pattern backing is applied to the outer limbs of the bow. Not only does this protect the fiberglass from scratches, but it also provides camouflage to the bow while hunting.

Once the backing is cured, the first cuts on the riser are made.

Sanding and shaping to fit my hand are done.

Two of my handmade traditional recurve bows. One covered in copperhead snake, and the other in rattlesnake. Note the rattlesnake bow has an arrow rest made from the lower jawbone of a coyote shot during hunting season on the Maine blueberry barrens.
