Today I had a chance to field test an interesting piece of equipment. It is a very lightweight little cooking pot made from titanium. They’re great for cooking outdoors, especially in higher elevations where a pot can barely boil water. But it's no problem for the Valtcan 1.8 liter pressure cooker. The company does offer slightly larger models, but this one is perfect for backpacking.
This pot operates at 5psi and generates about 225° - 227°F, which cooks faster than simply boiling under field conditions. These are sold as rice cookers, but I have found that they are like tiny InstantPot cookers that I use at home. The neatest thing is that 4 medium sized 8 ounce food pantry tins from Self Reliance Outfitters stack neatly inside, helping maximize your storage capacity in the woods. I’m using my Whisperlite Dragonfly stove that I’ve had for years in this video. It's been a very reliable trouble free stove for a very long time. Sometimes you’re out in the woods, and it’s often hazardous to have open flames. Wind can carry sparks a long ways from your campfires if you’re not careful. And in some places there’s an open fire ban because of dry conditions.
This is a pretty handy combo for these circumstances.
