My Version of Loaded “Potato Skins”
A lot of recipes exist for potato skins. Most people use russet potatoes and there’s nothing wrong with that at all. But I prefer smaller potatoes with a thinner skin. Why ? I place about 4 of them in the air fryer for roughly 40 minutes until they’re tender. I stab a couple holes with a

Grinding Fresh Flour for Bread
I start off the grind with whole wheat berries from my storage area. This bag indicates that this is Organic Summer (OS) wheat packaged in 2015. While flour itself only has a one year shelf life, whole wheat berries can last 30 plus years in proper storage. I ordered my bluestone granite mill from Amazon for a reasonable price. Check it out here…. Stored wheat berries Why grind your own flour, when you can buy it fairly cheap in a grocery store ? Well, for one thing store bo

Budget Flat Top Grilling
It seems like flat top griddles for cooking are all the rage these days. I perused the ads and saw the prices. Some are within reason as an add on to an existing gas grill, but the ones that are full time dedicated are pretty pricey. Blackstone makes some really fine units, but I’m only cooking for myself on the cheap. I can’t see spending $1300 for something that I might not use every day of the week. These units are really super nice for grilling on the patio deck. Weber

Weekend Grilling
A typical summer evening on weekends around here is the lighting of the fire pit for cooking. There’s nothing quite like that smoky wood flavor of cooking on an open fire. I decided to go with ground deer meat (venison) for the burgers this evening. Normally venison is very lean and doesn’t hold together well, but 20% added fat prevents the problem of falling apart. Grilling on the fire pit Homemade pretzel buns were the bread of the day. The recipe for these are in another a
